R.I.P. Nitro – Myami Legend [8 Videos]

Thursday, February 4, 2016

Let me take you back to 2006 when I was heavily documenting the streets of Miami Beach. One day I was out there walking down Washington ave looking for something to film when I saw a group of people up ahead surrounding some individual with a guitar. Come to find out his name was Nitro, a Bahamian born, miami raised musician who took his talents to South Beach and blessed the streets with his ability to speak his mind over his own creative melodies. The music he made on the spot was far better then the majority of the stuff we listen to today. After running into him a few times we developed a nice bond and I got to film him on at least 5 different occasions. Then after not seeing him for about a year I got one of the worst emails of my life, according to his brother Nitro had passed away in April 2009. What makes it worse is supposedly he had got some type of record deal prior to passing away.

Monday, January 18, 2016

Yesterday it was brought to my attention that Miami musical genius Clarence Reid aka Blowfly had passed away at 76 years old after suffering from terminal liver cancer and multiple organ failure. For those that don’t know he is said to be one of the originators of dirty rap music if not the originator himself.

Blowfly was born 1939 in Cochran, GA. At some point he moved to Miami where he started his music career. In the sixties and seventies he wrote numerous songs for artists such as Betty Wright, KC & The Sunshine Band, Gwen McCrae and many others under TK Records which was based in Hialeah,FL. After a brief singing career and hundreds of songwriting credits he released his first album under the alias Blowfly. According to many people he created the 1st rap song “Rapp Dirty” in 1965.

So we decided to get together with Julius, Dave, Kenny, and Laz for Myami305.com’s inaugural text interview.
